Chinese Perspectives on UAVs and Manned/Unmanned Teaming in Future Conflicts

Abstract: In this seminar, Ms. Stewart will share perspectives gained from her & co-author John Chen's research on the development of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) drone swarm and manned/unmanned teaming (MUM-T) technologies and potential future employment strategies. She will provide an overview of the development of PLA's autonomous systems doctrine before discussing PLA research and development efforts as well as current and projected capabilities.

Bio: Emilie Stewart is an Air Force Reserve Intelligence Officer, serving on active-duty orders as a Research Analyst with the China Aerospace Studies Institute. In her Reserve capacity, she is the Chief of the Ground Forces Military Capabilities Branch at the INDOPACOM JIOC, Joint Detachment Denver. She was commissioned through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Northern Colorado and holds an MA in International Security from the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver. She has held multiple positions in Intelligence across the U.S. and Qatar. Prior to her current position, Emilie served as the Assistance Director of Operations to the 38th Intelligence Squadron, 655th Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing, Beale AFB, California.
