James Wells

Dr. James Wells is professor of physics at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he is also an affiliate faculty of the Ford School of Public Policy. Currently, he is a CGSR Visiting Scientist. Prior to coming to CGSR he has held positions as the Chair of the American Physical Society's Panel on Public Affairs (POPA), and held the post as Chair of its Subcommittee on National Security. Through POPA Dr. Wells has written Statements and Reports on nuclear nonproliferation, arms control treaties and agreements, verification technology support and missile defense.

Dr. Wells's primary research interests are in missile defense, threat assessments on space-based assets, and nuclear weapons nonproliferation. He also does research in the area of joint security agreements between the United States and European allies through NATO and other forums. In connection with this he is a member of the Center for European Studies at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Wells obtained his doctorate in Physics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and has subsequently held long term positions at Professor at University of Michigan, and scientific staff member at CERN in Geneva Switzerland.
