Daeyeon Lee is a Research Associate at the Center for Global Security Research (CGSR) within Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). His research explores nuclear security and politics of the Korean Peninsula with an emphasis on formulating balanced strategies for North Korea’s nuclear disarmament with deterrence and engagement.
Daeyeon earned his BA and MA in International Relations at San Francisco State University. For his MA thesis, he assessed and analyzed South Korea’s foreign policies towards North Korea, focusing on Presidential speeches. Currently, he is advancing this studies toward an MA in Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, concentrating on US strategies toward North Korea’s nuclear program.
As a South Korean native, he was stationed at the Demilitarized Zone and served the two-year military duty in the Korean Army 22nd Division Reconnaissance.
