Nihar Chhatiawala is a Research Associate at the Center for Global Security Research (CGSR), a PhD Candidate at the Pardee RAND Graduate School, and an Assistant Policy Researcher at the RAND Corporation. His research concerns the energy transition and how future supply of critical materials (particularly lithium) could be sensitive to foreign environmental policies and sustainable development initiatives. This research is part of Nihar’s dissertation research concerning environmental policies for the energy transition. Nihar broadly works on research concerning climate change, critical infrastructure, and advanced technology with emphases on simulations, complex systems, and decision-making under conditions of uncertainty. Prior to his research career, he worked in the software industry and with various startups developing energy and healthcare technologies. Nihar previously earned his MS in physics and BSE in engineering physics at Case Western Reserve University.
