Samuel Hickey

Samuel M. Hickey is a Research Associate at the Center for Global Security Research (CGSR) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. His research is focused on the intersection of science and policy in the field of international security, and he plans to examine the potential for missile defense cooperation between the United States and China to resolve a major challenge to integrated strategic deterrence. He is currently a PhD student at the University of Maryland's School of Public Policy and the current recipient of the Catherine M. Kelleher Fellowship for International Security Studies at the Center for International & Security Studies at Maryland (CISSM). He is also the Paul A. Castleman Policy Fellow at the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation (CACNP).

Prior to beginning his PhD, Hickey was a research analyst at CACNP and served as the coordinator of the Fissile Materials Working Group and then as a term member on the International Nuclear Security Forum's advisory board. He was also a visiting researcher at the Arab Institute for Security Studies in Amman, Jordan studying the development of nuclear energy programs in the Middle East. Before that, he was an Adjunct Instructor of Physics at American University in Washington, D.C. His research has been published in Energy Research & Social Science. His policy commentary has also been published in War on the Rocks, Washington Post/Monkey Cage, the Diplomat Magazine, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, Foreign Affairs and other outlets.
