Michael Kruse

Dr. Michael Kruse is a technical member of staff in the Physical and Life Sciences directorate (PLS), as well as an internal fellow at the Center for Global Security Research (CGSR) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. His CGSR research interests cover future nuclear security in the Middle East.

Michael works in the Physics Division of PLS in the area of high energy density physics where he focuses on the atomic physics aspects of opacity models. He is also partially funded by the National Ignition Facility and works closely with the ensembles group to address the question of scaling the NIF laser energy and power requirements to a credible ignition platform.

Dr. Kruse holds a nuclear physics Ph.D. from the University of Arizona (2006-2012) which was selected to be published in the Springer Thesis Series. He moved to Livermore in July 2012 to join the nuclear theory and modelling group as a postdoc where he worked with Dr. Ormand on ab-initio calculations of the electromagnetic response functions of light nuclei. He has been a full-time staff member in the High Energy Density Science Theory and Modeling group since late 2015.
