Kirthi Kumar

Kirthi Kumar is a Research Associate at the Center for Global Security (CGSR) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. She is currently a junior at UC Berkeley majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) and Business Administration in the Management, Entrepreneurship, and Technology (M.E.T.) program, as well as minoring in Public Policy. Kirthi’s academic focus is understanding AI and emerging technologies from each of these perspectives, and her research at CGSR will focus on the intersections of AI, human-computer interaction, autonomous nuclear systems, and escalation.

In the past, Kirthi has worked with the Tech Talent Project, where she worked on tech memos for the 2020 Presidential transition, and the National Security Innovation Network, where her strategy work focused on bridging the gap between entrepreneurship, academia and government. She has also worked at various startups as a software engineer and worked on multiple technical research projects. At school, Kirthi is highly involved with the Society of Women Engineers, M.E.T. student board, Computer Science Mentors, and is the TA for CS 195 - Computer Ethics.
