Integrating AI and Wargaming: Opportunities and Challenges

Abstract: How can AI be integrated with wargaming? What are the opportunities for national security and defense? What are the technological and ethical challenges? In this talk, Ms. Barzashka will examine the potential for combining AI with human-centered wargaming and evaluate potential technology futures. She will discuss educational and analytical applications and highlight risks around transparency, bias and oversight. The talk will conclude with recommendations on the responsible governance of AI-enabled wargaming for strategic advantage.

Bio: Dr. Ivanka Barzashka is the co-founder and CEO of Strand Analytica, a US-UK defense startup, committed to the secure and ethical use of technology in strategic analytical wargaming for national security and defense. She was the founding director of the Wargaming Network at King's College London dedicated to establishing wargaming as an academic discipline. With a background in physics and international relations, Ms. Barzashka has worked at the intersection of technology and strategy and developed wargaming methodology and epistemology. She has consulted the UK Ministry of Defense and provided testimony to UK Parliament.
