Power in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

May 4, 2023

Abstract: A new industrial revolution has begun. Like mechanization or electricity before it, artificial intelligence will touch every aspect of our lives—and cause profound disruptions in the balance of global power, especially among the AI superpowers: China, the United States, and Europe. Paul Scharre, a former Army Ranger and Pentagon official, will talk on his book, Four Battlegrounds: Power in the Age of Artificial Intelligence. Dr. Scharre's first book, Army of None, won the 2019 Colby Award, was named one of Bill Gates' Top 5 Books of 2018, and was named by The Economist one of the top five books to understand modern warfare. Mr. Scharre will discuss the U.S.-China AI rivalry and the fierce global competition to lead an AI-driven future.

Here's also a short clip-on NPR All Things Considered about the book: https://www.npr.org/2023/03/02/1160714485/when-it-comes-to-the-dangers-of-ai-surveillance-poses-more-risk-than-anything
