Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

The Center for Global Security Research (CGSR) hosted a workshop on the technical and political dimensions of nuclear arms control bargains in world politics. The goal of the workshop was to facilitate dialogue between members of the academic and Laboratory communities working on issues related to nuclear proliferation.

The workshop opened with presentations from three political scientists explaining why, how, and when states are able to strike nuclear nonproliferation deals and arms control agreements. Senior members of the Laboratory technical staff offered comments on this body of research that drew from the unique pool of knowledge at LLNL. The subsequent discussion created a two-way flow of information between these political scientists and participants from LLNL, Sandia National Laboratory, Stanford University, and UC Berkeley.

The workshop was sponsored by the Nuclear Crossroads Initiative at the Center for Global Security Research.
