The Center for Global Security Research (CGSR) is sponsoring a talk entitled "Pakistan: Living with Nuclear Weapons". Following the lecture there will be a question and answer session. This is open to the Laboratory.

Dr. Ahmed will focus on the development of Pakistani force posture after 1998 to date explaining the rationale for Pakistan decisions for going to Pu route and introduction of Tactical Nuclear Weapons (TNW) and also the potential and challenges ahead. Brig. Khan will give his take on the implications of "Pakistani Full Spectrum Response" and also qualify and give alternate views on these thinking.

For 32 years, Brig. Khan served the Pakistani Army domestically and abroad with assignments in the United States, Europe, and South Asia. He was in combat and command on active fronts on the Siachen Glacier, Kashmir and the Pakistan­Afghanistan border. His last assignment was Director, Arms Control and Disarmament Affairs, within the Strategic Plans Division, Joint Services Headquarters. Among his academic degrees, Brig. Khan holds an M.A. from the Paul Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at the Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Ahmed is a Lecturer in the Department of Defense and Strategic Studies (DSS), Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad, since January 2011. He received a Ph.D in International Relations from QAU in 2012. He also holds an M.Sc in International Relations and an M. Phil in Defense and Strategic Studies from QAU. Currently, he is a Visiting Research Scholar (Aug 2013-Jan 2014) at the Cooperative Monitoring Center, Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, N.M.


Pakistan: Living With Nuclear Weapons

Feroz Khan of the Department of National Security Affairs at the Naval Post Graduate School and Monsoor Ahmed, lecturer in the Department of Defense and Strategic Studies at Quaid-i-Azam University, deliver the lecture "Pakistan: Living with nuclear weapons" at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's Center for Global Security Research.
