Steven Arroyo is a Research Associate with the Center for Global Security Research at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. His research investigates whether Russia is attempting to gain a new strategic advantage by developing nuclear-capable anti-satellite (ASAT) weapons for deployment in space, focusing on analyzing open-source intelligence, modeling escalation dynamics, and evaluating how space-based nuclear weapons could disrupt deterrence stability between the United States, Russia, and other nuclear states.
Recently, Steven graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering, with a minor in Public Policy and a Business Certificate from the Haas School of Business. While at UC Berkeley, he served as Deputy Director of the Nuclear Policy Working Group (NPWG) and conducted research on topics including nuclear power in warfare and artificial intelligence in nuclear command and control systems. He also contributed to policy projects on space-based nuclear propulsion and portable radiation detection systems.
