Caroline Wesson is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Center for Global Security Research (CGSR) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
Caroline’s research examines different facets of technology competition with a focus on Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, international research collaborations, and broader concepts of Science and Innovation Policy. Other research areas where she is engaged include U.S.-China science and technology issues, the defense industrial base, and strategic trade.
Caroline earned her PhD in Political Science from George Mason University. She also holds a M.S. and B.S. in International Affairs from the Georgia Institute of Technology. While at George Mason, she was project manager and graduate research assistant for a Minerva funded transdisciplinary research team, AI Strategies, which focuses on analyzing national AI strategies. Caroline has also worked as a Summer Associate for RAND, where she contributed to a report on international basic research collaborations. Additionally, she has held positions at the World Bank working on matters related to multilateral institutions, the Center for Strategic and International Studies’ China Power Project researching Chinese innovation policy and strategic trade, and the United Nations University’s Institute on Computing and Society. Caroline has contributed to publications in International Studies Quarterly and the University of California’s Global Perspectives among others.
