Dr. Brian Radzinsky is a senior fellow at the Center for Global Search Research (CGSR) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. His work at CGSR focuses on U.S. defense strategy, nuclear deterrence, space and missile defense policy, arms control, and extended deterrence. 

From 2023-2026, he served as a senior advisor in the Nuclear Deterrence and Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Policy (NCWMD) office within the Office of the Under Secretary of War for Policy.  In that role, he supported several U.S. nuclear policy and extended deterrence portfolios, including congressional engagement, interagency-directed reviews U.S. deterrence capabilities, development of nuclear employment guidance, and Nuclear Weapons Council activities.  From 2024 to 2025, he served as the lead for NATO nuclear deterrence policy, providing staff support to the NATO High Level Group (HLG) as chair of the HLG’s Ad Hoc Working Group and developing U.S. national policies on NATO nuclear deterrence with interagency partners.  For his contributions, he received the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service.

Prior to this assignment, he served as a CGSR postdoctoral fellow, supporting studies on U.S.-China nuclear policy and projects in the laboratory’s Z Division.  He is also co-editor, with Charles Glaser and Austin Long, of Managing U.S. Nuclear Operations in the 21st Century (Brookings Institution Press).  Prior to joining CGSR, he served as the deputy director of the Nuclear Security Working Group at the George Washington University.  He received a PhD in political science from the George Washington University and a BA in political science from Reed College.
